We have been focusing on our production process to understand where we may have been UGG boots adding unnecessary time or cost to our products. We have reworked our processes for design, development and manufacturing and have consolidated operations. Two years ago we were using 43 factories to produce Rockport(R) product; at the end of 1996 we had reduced this number to 30, and in 1997 we hope to reduce this count further.Many of these are new factories with advanced machinery and processes that offer flexible manufacturing capabilities. For example, when the World Tour shoe caught on, we were able to produce a million pairs in nine months. Previously, we would have been limited to our initial order of 20,000 pairs a month. We have made substantial progress in this area, and additional improvements are possible.
