In 1964, Konrad's grandson, Karl Birkenstock, integrated contoured arch support directly into the footbed, and the Birkenstock sandal was born.
Birkenstock USA began in 1966, when founder Margot Fraser visited Germany. Seeking relief from uncomfortable shoes and the pain of walking all day on hard pavement, she visited a spa, where someone suggested that she try Birkenstocks. Her relief was immediate, and within months of returning home to California and continuing to wear her Birkenstocks, Margot's chronic foot pain vanished. This is my 4th Mens Birkenstock Shoes  to date. I recently purchased the Gizeh, which I love, but I wanted the Adria because of its "tried and true" flip-flop styling. Then, you add the Birkenstock foot bed and leather straps... can't lose. I received my Adria's today, and I love them, definitely feminine, but comfortable. Oh, and for the review that said the strap hurts, yes if you are close to a wide-width, you should probably go for the wider width to prevent the strap from rubbing. If you have a medium width, you should be fine. And for those who don't already know, Zappos ordering/shipping is outstanding!
